Course Description:
In the U.S., 9.2% of the population classifies as severely obese (CDC, 2021). Rehabilitation therapists need to understand the impact of severe obesity on the clinical presentation and rehabilitation trajectory for patients treated in acute care settings. In this course, learners will review the impact of obesity on functional recovery and goal setting. Case scenarios will demonstrate best practices to implement to ensure a patient successfully meets their goals and documentation tips for establishing appropriate goals and timelines for the plan of care. Discharge planning is reviewed along with specific durable medical equipment to facilitate a patient's successful transition to a post-acute level of care.
