Course Description:

This Advanced Level 3 Pelvic Health course provides Physical Therapists (PTs), Occupational Therapists (OTs) and Physical Therapist Assistants with the skills and knowledge to provide rehabilitation treatment for pelvic pain disorders. This is a live course consisting of an interactive live webinar and an intensive live interactive instructional course. Review of pelvic pain disorders driven by the musculoskeletal system, neurological system, dermatological system and other miscellaneous medical disorders will prepare the participants for an effective learning experience. Differential diagnosis of the treatment diagnosis of pelvic pain disorders will be addressed as well as instruction in developing the most effective treatment plan.
During the live course, participants will learn and practice manual therapy techniques of the pelvic girdle, pelvic floor, abdomen and the coccyx. Skills will include behavioral strategies, down training, neuromuscular re-education and functional training with therapeutic exercise and therapeutic activities. Course content is evidence based and will promote the use of the most reliable tests and validated outcomes measures. Participants are required to demonstrate competency through testing in order to progress to the next level of training.

Students must have complete Pelvic Level I and the Pelvic Health Online Functional Anatomy courses

Details: Examination/ Evaluation: All participants will describe normal anatomy and function of the pelvic girdle and pelvic floor. All participants will list components of the medical investigation for pelvic pain disorders. PTs and OTs will perform examination and evaluation of the pelvic girdle, pelvic floor, abdomen and coccyx. Diagnosis/Prognosis PTs and OTs will differentiate between musculoskeletal, neural and medical diagnoses based on the subjective and objective evaluation of a patient with pelvic pain. PTs and OTs will perform differential diagnosis of musculoskeletal and neural impairments associated with pelvic pain disorders and/or abdominal or pelvic girdle pain or symptoms. PTs and OTs will develop rehabilitation goals for musculoskeletal impairments with pelvic pain disorders based on the patient interview and the PT/OT therapist’s examination of the patient. Intervention: All participants will develop and perform strategies for rehabilitation treatment of pelvic floor muscle impairments, neural impairments, and associated dermatological conditions contributing to pelvic pain. All participants will develop knowledge of autonomic sensitization and treatment strategies for therapeutic management. All participants will perform manual therapy interventions including pelvic girdle joint mobilization, connective tissue mobilization, trigger point release, myofascial release techniques to the pelvic floor, pelvic girdle, abdominal muscles All participants will describe optimal documentation and billing and coding for providing therapy treatment.
