Course Description:

The course is primarily hands-on with a blend of online material the providers will be responsible for completing prior to the course. This course will provide a clear definition of dry needling while also going into the history of this specific modality. The following objectives will be achieved via the didactic portion of the course: differences between acupuncture and dry needling, proposed mechanisms, evidence based outcomes for various conditions, different types and intentions using dry needling and contraindications/precautions. The lab portion will approach dry needling from a condition/diagnosis approach to give providers a more simplistic methodology for using this modality with more common conditions such as low back pain, hip and knee osteoarthritis, neck pain, TMD, medial and lateral epicondylagia to just name a few. The content will be taught in a way where providers can immediately use the information and experience received to apply to their patient's in a safe, practical and applicable manner. The course will initially be intended to deliver to providers within Prisma Health with the hopes eventually expanding to providers in the surrounding areas who desire a simpler and more effective way to learn dry needling.
