Course Description:
This course provides learners with evidence-informed approaches to the medical management and cancer rehabilitation of people living with and beyond (PLWB) gynecological cancers. The five gynecological cancers (uterine, ovarian, vaginal, cervical, and vulvar) collectively make up about 10% of all female cancers. While each cancer has a unique medical management approach, there are common adverse effects many survivors experience, including hormone suppression, chemotherapy-included peripheral neuropathy, pelvic and sexual dysfunction, cancer-related fatigue, lymphedema, cancer-related cognitive decline, weakness, and deconditioning. These health conditions and impairments can have significant physical function and psychological impacts on an individual's functional mobility and activity, transfers, sleep, cognition, occupations, and engagement in community and occupational roles. This course will provide clinicians with the foundational knowledge of the medical management of gynecological cancers, potential adverse effects of cancer and its treatment, and rehabilitation considerations for this population from diagnosis through prospective surveillance in survivorship.
