Course Description:
This workshop is designed for educators, care givers and parents of children with autism and disabilities.. Dr. Magro will describe how he survived the educational experience growing up being on the spectrum and how his experiences can help students with disabilities from early childhood to the transition into adulthood. Dr. Magro will discuss what happens to children with disabilities when they become adults including college, employment, guardianship and housing. In his social skills and conversation presentation you'll learn helpful tips to help individuals with autism thrive in this area with an emphasis on communication.
Tami Allen's presentations will focus on integrated supports for children with disabilities and their families. This framework was created to explore life possibilities, share ideas, set higher expectations, address difficult conversations, problem solve and explore a variety of supports.
Jennifer Schreiner will discuss navigating stressors and family challenges with neurodiverse children.
The panel consists of parents of varying professions and backgrounds and their relationships and problems with their children with autism. Dawson will give his perspective of a student with autism during his school years.
