Course Description:

Cognitive functional therapy (CFT) is a person-centred cognitive and behavioural intervention that coaches people with chronic low back pain to self-manage their condition. A recent trial published in the Lancet demonstrated that CFT resulted in large and sustained reductions in pain and disability, in people with chronic low back pain, compared to usual care. This was associated with large cost savings in the CFT group due to people getting back to work. This presentation will outline the problem of chronic low back pain, the CFT intervention, the process of training physical therapists to competency and the efficacy of the intervention.
