Course Description:
Primary speaker-Marie McGowan: Lymphedema for UE due to breast cancer, radiation fibrosis and side effects of cancer medication and other treatments. Secondary speaker-short Ortho review: Karen Steele PT (breast cancer survivor and Lymphedema patient) on common Orthopedic conditions-impingement, RC strain/tear, adhesive capsulitis and frozen shoulder.
Course Justification and purpose:
This course directly relates to the practice of physical therapy by equipping therapists with specialized knowledge and practical skills for addressing common shoulder pathologies in breast cancer survivors. As physical therapists play a crucial role in the rehabilitation and management of individuals affected by cancer, this course provides essential insights into the unique challenges faced by breast cancer survivors, particularly concerning shoulder issues resulting from treatment or surgery.
