Course Description:
Anxiety, depression, and PTSD can feel intractable at times, both to the patient and the clinician. And very frustratingly, at times it even seems like the harder we work the worse the problems become. That is because although in most aspects of life, the harder we work at something, usually the better it becomes, but this is typically not the case when we apply normal problem-solving skills to trying to reduce painful thoughts or psychological feelings. Our emotions tend to act like the Chinese bamboo finger trap - the more we try to resist and pull away, the tighter their grip becomes. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is an increasingly popular, empirically supported therapeutic approach that provides clients practical techniques for effectively managing both anxiety and depressive disorders.
