Course Description:

Our profession’s core values guide the behaviors of physical therapists and physical therapist assistants to provide the highest quality of services. This course reviews the Core Values and takes a deep dive in to what these core values look like within the clinical/hospital setting. The majority of our core values have a common foundation of connecting with our patients, patients’ families and our colleagues yet as technology and social media continue to impact our practices and our lives, communication and connecting skills are less and less developed in our clinicians.
This course assists the clinician to bring our core values to the forefront of patient care in combination with their technical skills and assists in developing the “how” behind self- regulation, altruism, collaboration, empathy and demonstrating compassion. Developing excellence beyond technical skills by awareness of seven essential components of connecting and communicating:
1.   Patient centered care (evidence- based communication practices, the power of encouragement, and the mind body connection),
2.   Team collaboration and communication
3.   Visual intelligence (understanding body language of themselves/others and observation skills)
4.    Auditory intelligence and Verbal intelligence (the skill of active listening, tone, speed of speech and sensory preferences)
5.   Emotional intelligence (self- awareness, self- management, social awareness, relationship management)
6.    Goodwill intelligence (ego versus awareness, setting aside self-interest).
