Course Description:
HTN is persistent elevated arterial blood pressure (BP) and can occur idiopathically or as the result of another condition. BP measurements are classified into four categories: normal, prehypertension, stage 1 HTN, and stage 2 HTN. There are many factors that increase the risk of HTN, and HTN itself is a risk factor for other diseases and conditions. Management of HTN in women includes use of antihypertensive medications and lifestyle modifications. A physical therapy evaluation of a woman with HTN should include a detailed medical and personal history as well as an assessment of cardiopulmonary fitness. Physical therapy intervention for women with HTN will include patient education and a tailored exercise program.
