Course Description:
Identifying optimal intervention strategies for patients with spinal cord injury can be very
challenging for clinicians. Spinal cord injuries present with different limitations and specific
patient needs requiring a strong understanding of the functional outcomes for each level of
injury. The best way to begin treating any patient with a spinal cord injury is with a clear
understanding of common complications seen in this population. In this course, JJ Mowder-
Tinney emphasizes the priority complications that impact safety and function with providing
explicit treatment adjustments for optimal outcomes. In addition, this course reviews
appropriate goals and optimal treatment options for someone with a high cervical level injury.
This course involves multiple demonstrations with real patients that have cervical and thoracic
level injuries. This course is appropriate for PTs, PTAs, OTs, OTAs and nursing and can be
utilized in any patient setting.
