Course Description:
Orthopedic surgeries are among the most common surgical procedures for older adults. This course, based on five recent peer-reviewed open-access articles, provides rehab professionals with current evidence-based information on rehabilitation after orthopedic surgery in the elderly. The first article in the group examines family caregiver issues when caring for an older patient after orthopedic surgery. The next two articles look at return to sport after shoulder arthroplasty or unicompartmental knee replacement. The final two articles examine the influence of pre- and post-surgical exercise on outcomes after hip or knee replacement. The information presented in this course will be immediately useful in evidence-based clinical practice for all rehab professionals who treat this population.
