Course Description:

This intermediate level course for PT/PTAs and OT/OTAs on patterned electrical neuromuscular stimulation (PENS) to facilitate function is part of a series of online Accelerated Clinical Practice courses. It provides extensive overview of the physiology of PENS, the application of functional and neuro re-education to key muscles in the upper and lower quadrants. The course includes a review of literature regarding muscle activation, physiology research, and functional outcomes associated with PENS applications. Additionally, the course covers the impact of PENS on physiological impairments and how it contributes to improved patient participation, activity, and functional performance.
