Course Description:
The purpose is to course will be define and discuss the role of anabolic resistance in response to inactivity or injury, illness and aging. Specific topics to include physiological responses to those above, and its effect on muscle protein balance and skeletal muscle atrophy. We will establish clinical tools and tests to identify those showing signs of anabolic resistance and/or sarcopenia and sarcopenic obesity. There will be a review of the effect of skeletal muscle contraction and exercise on the endocrine system, and how those can be used to address findings of and contributing factors to anabolic resistance. Lastly, establish evidence based interventions to address these findings.
