Course Description:
Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV) and balance fit inside of the overarching specialty of vestibular rehabilitation and, while some therapists may not decide to pursue the specialty more in depth, the treatment of basic BPPV and basic balance disorders can be effectively delivered by the treating therapist with appropriate education and differential diagnoses. Often patients may be seeing us for other diagnoses and they report symptoms consistent with BPPV, and we should be able to help them. Likewise some may be referred to us with a basic case of BPPV, we do not want to have to delay their care by not being able to assess them.
This three part series is designed to help the learner gain confidence and skill with managing patients with either general balance deficits or BPPV. This series provides a basic overview of testing, assessment, and treatment of these conditions, as well as offers screening frameworks to determine when a more in depth assessment and treatment plan is warranted. This course is designed as an introduction to basic evaluation and management skills in patients presenting with BPPV and balance deficits and highlights when referral to another provider may be warranted.
