Course Description:
Welcome to this course on Physical Therapy: Managing Rotator Cuff Rehabilitation. Shoulder pain, restricted range of motion, and weakness result in impaired ability to perform daily activities, including work, recreation, and personal hygiene. Rotator cuff tears are a common cause of these impairments. Many people can recover after physical therapy alone, depending on the size and type of rotator cuff tear. However, others do not respond to conservative management approaches and require surgery to repair the rotator cuff injury. Interventions for rotator cuff tears may be conservative, without surgery, or one of several surgical procedures. Implementing the proper rehabilitation protocol following surgery helps the patient to reach the best outcome. This course will discuss the anatomy and biomechanics of the shoulder to improve your understanding of the impact of a rotator cuff injury. We will also discuss the proper rehabilitation protocols for surgical and other non-conservative treatments for rotator cuff tears.
Please note: This continuing education/professional development activity was planned for physical therapists. Completing this course does not authorize you to add any skill discussed in the content to your practice if this function is not included in your current scope of practice.
