Course Description:
Care for clients with advanced dementia requires a holistic interprofessional approach that addresses the physical, cognitive, and psychosocial issues of the patient and their caregivers. This can be challenging to do based on time and resources. This course provides rehabilitation therapy professionals with an in-depth understanding of the clinical presentation of advanced dementia and effective treatment strategies and clinical pearls. Case-based scenarios demonstrate how to choose appropriate patient-centered goals and interventions based on patient and caregiver needs, and resources available. Communication strategies and recommendations for community-based resources and services are described.
The goal of this course is to provide rehabilitation professionals with an understanding of the clinical presentation of advanced dementia and effective treatment strategies based on the patient and caregiver needs.
