Course Description:
There is a critical shortage of primary care providers in the US and Nebraska, that is only expected to worsen in coming years. Rural Nebraska is especially affected by these shortages. Not only can physical therapists help fill this gap, but there is increasing amounts of data demonstrating that primary care presents a huge opportunity for physical therapists and the health system to produce better outcomes, ensure optimal utilization of resources, and decrease costs. Physical therapists have served in a primary care role in the military for decades. We are beginning to see wider integration across the country, but obstacles remain. This course is designed for practicing and student physical therapy professionals to learn more about the current state of physical therapy in primary care and how we can continue to advocate for the ability to practice at the top of our scope to meet the needs of the patients in our communities.
