Course Description:

This course focuses on the evaluation components of objective functional testing, the use of the physical demands/job descriptions to help develop return to work goals and treatment, as well as methods to manage the case through communication with stakeholders. Information about barriers to work participation and best practices for assisting the worker in overcoming those barriers is shared. The content is based on the Clinical Practice Guidelines for Work Optimization and on a flag system of barriers including system imposed and employer imposed barriers, as well as physical and psychosocial barriers that may be unique to the individual. Although this course will provide insight into many barriers to work participation, in-depth training in overcoming individual mal-adaptive thoughts, beliefs, and coping strategies is beyond the scope of this course.
