Course Description:
Hamstring injuries are a common injury in sports and the general population, making up approximately 15% of all sports injuries with a reinjury rate upwards of 35%. While proximal hamstring injuries only make up around 10% of all hamstring injuries, these injuries tend to cause greater disability and have a longer recovery time than other hamstring muscle injuries. The management of proximal hamstring injuries is often more complex with a delayed return to activity. This course will review common mechanisms of injury to the hamstring complex, with a focus on proximal hamstring, along with differential diagnosis. The current evidence regarding conservative and surgical management will be reviewed. A lab component will instruct the participants in various exercises utilized in conservative management of proximal hamstring injuries.
