Course Description:
Many people group Parkinsonism diseases under the same umbrella, not really knowing the difference between idiopathic Parkinson’s disease and Parkinson-Plus syndromes. Each syndrome possesses some of the cardinal features of idiopathic Parkinson’s, but also includes discrete features such as cranial nerve deficits, dementia, or more significant cognitive changes. This class will use case-based learning to help differentiate between idiopathic Parkinson’s disease and the Parkinson-Plus syndromes such as Lewy Body Dementia, Multiple System Atrophy, and Progressive Supranuclear Palsy. Functional ADL challenges and rehab strategies for each syndrome will be covered.
