Course Description:
This 2 day course emphasizes key considerations applicable to the physical and occupational therapist in effectively managing patients with chronic cardiopulmonary diseases. Clinical considerations will be presented along the spectrum of care from acute hospitalization to rehabilitation, home health and outpatient care. Disease processes for patients with hypertension, heart failure, chronic obstructive, restrictive lung diseases, atrial fibrillation and venous thromboembolic diseases will be presented with specific reference to its etiology, pathology, and current medical management. In addition, the course accentuates current evidence on the interacting concepts of stability, decompensation and readmissions in patients with chronic diseases. Examination and evaluation strategies, organized clinical decision making and evidenced-based treatment techniques will be emphasized to provide clinicians with a contemporary best practice approach for managing patients with chronic cardiopulmonary diseases.
