Course Description:
In this course, using lecture, lab, and small group format, participants will have the opportunity to expand their foundational competency in the field of ergonomics by exploring multiple topics in this ever-evolving area of interaction between humans and equipment. Content that we will be focusing on include: identifying the role of the medical provider in the field of industrial rehabilitation, understanding the impact of Work-related Musculo Skeletal Disorders (WMSDs) on society, exploring how standardized assessments can be used to quantify potential ergonomic risk factors, identifying recommendations that can help mitigate the injury risk potential, investigating Functional Capacity Evaluations (FCEs), evaluating new hire candidates through Post Offer Functional Assessments (PFAs), creating and delivering exercise programs that target the essential job demands, exploring the use of virtual medicine for the purpose of delivering our work injury care programs to employees that are onsite at their respective companies, identifying the impact of worker’s compensation, understanding the influence of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) title III (discriminating against individuals with disabilities) and title I (discriminating against qualified individuals with disabilities in job application procedures, hiring, firing, advancement, compensation, job training, and other terms, conditions, and privileges of employment), and examining the injured worker’s perspective on occupation.
