Course Description:

The WSU Department of Physical Therapy proudly presents the DPT Class of 2025 Clinical Conference presentations. Join the Department for a shared learning experience using actual patient profiles. The graduating class will present on a wide variety of topics relevant to a range of practice settings. The Clinical Conference courses were designed as a capstone experience for the DPT students. Each group presents a profile for a patient that at least one of the students has treated as a patient during a full-time, clinical experience. Appropriate approvals and release of information forms have been completed with all patients, as well as appropriate permission obtained from all patients or their legal guardians. Patient names and other information are kept confidential. All DPT students and full-time faculty attend the sessions. These sessions are available to PTs and PTAs for CEU credit pending approval from the KPTA (6.75 CEUs). This conference will consist of eighteen 20-minute sessions, in which a different patient profile is presented by 3rd year DPT students for every session. Student presentations are reviewed by their respective faculty advisors and are required to follow the format utilized by the Guide to Physical Therapy Practice. All courses are considered basic entry level. All students are required to adhere to the following objectives: The DPT students will present a clinical case and: 1. apply didactic information from the classroom or clinical setting to clinical decision making and utilize clinical problem solving in order to examine, prognosticate, and plan intervention for a wide range of patient problems commonly encountered in the clinic. 2. develop or enhance clinical decision-making skills, which include justifiable differential diagnosis, prognosis, and intervention planning. 3. demonstrate the ability to utilize the Guide to Physical Therapist Practice as a template for data collection, prognostication, and intervention planning. 4. demonstrate the ability to research and organize a segment of basic science (or other) information as part of the presentation. Please refer to the attached schedule for the day. The course schedule and objectives are the same for each presenting group. Only the patient cases that are being presented change with specific objectives for the audience related to each individual patient profile.
