Course Description:
This training meets the Implicit Bias training requirements for physical therapy licensure in the State of Michigan. This course will define and describe the connection between implicit bias and microaggressions. Participants will be invited to examine their personal biases and social identities as they relate to power and privilege. Examples of implicit bias and microaggressions in healthcare and physical therapy will be explored in the context of research and real-life case examples from physical therapy practice. Participants will be encouraged to identify their own emotional and somatic responses to aggressions and strategies to self-regulate and navigate challenging conversations using the VITALS (validate, inquire, take time, assume, leave opportunities, speak up) framework.
