Course Description:

This course for orthotists and therapists addresses how bigger and older kids with gross motor
delays have great potential but often lack the opportunity to learn key gross motor fundamentals
such postural control, weight shifts, and triplanar movements. The learners will first review how
head and trunk deficits impact vision, breathing, upper and lower extremity function, alignment,
and participation. Case studies will explore how dynamic head and trunk solutions including the
Surestep TLSO and Surestep Dynamic Cervical Orthosis can be used to help move past potential
and improve function and participation. This course will also review the impact of delayed or
immature gait development on alignment, daily participation, and quality of life. More case studies
will analyze how Surestep BigShot SMOs and the Surestep Indy2Stage AFO in conjunction with
therapy can facilitate typical movements to learn key gross motor fundamentals and improve their
engagement and participation. These case studies will include a review of device modification,
dosage schedules, outcome measures, and communication with families and team members to
encourage compliance and participation.

Course Dates To Be Offered:

Apr 16, 2025 to Apr 16, 2026 | Detroit MI
