Course Description:

Improve your confidence working with patients recovering from cancer diagnosis and treatment. How to progress a patient undergoing chemo or radiation, when to encourage persistence, and when to stop. Red flags, yellow flags and green flags for treatment will be explored. Learn what to look for in an evaluation, how to modify treatment, when to refer patient to other medical providers. Understand signs and symptoms of lymphedema, identifying axillary web syndrome and other after effects of Breast Cancer. Understand the main orthopedic issues after head and neck cancer, including the effect of complex surgeries. How to set goals and what outcome measures to use. Manual techniques mini lab for lymphatic pumping routes, when to initiate different manual treatments, and evidence based interventions including taping, cupping, IASTM (instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization) and exercise prescription. After this class, you will walk away with better strategies for evaluation and treatment of the patient with a history of cancer as well as the goal setting and outcome measures.
