Course Description:
Designed specifically for outpatient speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, and physical therapists, this course explores the assessment and treatment of acquired reading impairments in adults. With a targeted focus on the interplay between aphasia, cognitive-communication deficits, and visual processing challenges, participants will learn how to identify the underlying causes of reading difficulties following neurological injury or illness. The course will guide clinicians through effective assessment tools, differential diagnosis strategies, and practical, evidence-based interventions that can be applied in an outpatient setting. Emphasis will be placed on interdisciplinary collaboration and functional goal-setting to support real-world reading needs such as medication management, daily correspondence, and navigating written information in the community.
