Course Description:
Although glioblastomas make up a small percentage of cancer diagnoses in the U.S., they are frequently encountered in inpatient rehabilitation settings. The high prevalence of physical and cognitive impairments, along with other debilitating effects, makes rehabilitation a critical component in improving a patient’s function and overall quality of life. It is essential that all members of the multidisciplinary team understand the nature of this diagnosis in order to help set realistic and meaningful functional goals. We must acknowledge the unpredictable course of glioblastoma and be prepared to manage the challenges that can limit a patient’s ability to participate in rehabilitation. This presentation will demonstrate the powerful role rehabilitation can play in supporting the well-being of both patients and their families as they navigate the complexities of this difficult diagnosis.
