Course Description:
This course focuses on the adjustments of an orthotic multi-functional hinge and on the impact on gait kinematics that they can have. The clinical practice guidelines (CPG’s) by the APTA support the use of Ankle foot orthosis (AFOs) as early intervention in stroke recovery due to the functional benefits but sight issues of compensations and ability to control gait kinematics as limitations of AFOs. The newer technologies related to these multifunctional hinges which have been on the market since 2016 allow clinicians to manage stance phase gait kinematics in ways that were previously not achievable. The course allows not only for improved knowledge on application but also provides familiarity with adjustments and technical skills related to the products use in clinical practice. Additionally, the CPG’s sight the need for physical therapist to have increased exposure to available orthotic options and education, this course is designed to give therapist and orthotist the exposure to the newest technology in orthotic joints on the market.
