Course Description:
This two-hour seminar is a discussion of advanced orthotic design integrated with concepts of physical rehabilitation. In particular, this course reviews the impact of microprocessor-controlled knee ankle foot orthosis (KAFO) technology on individual function and the gait cycle. The speaker reviews patient selection criteria, evaluation practices, orthotic features, and programming of the microprocessor KAFO. Associated rehabilitation protocols, recommendations, and the availability of clinical trials are presented to promote interprofessional collaboration between physicians, orthotists, and physical therapists.
