Course Description:
Hip fractures have a significant impact on the lives of older adults and their families, and the subsequent surgery, although very effective in treating the fracture, places a significant
emotional, physical, and financial strain on the patient. With continual rising costs in healthcare, and as little as 3 days to transition the patient out of the hospital, the physical therapist in the contemporary acute care setting, now more than ever, needs to understand how to assess and treat this patient population. In this course, learn how physical therapy can effectively evaluate and treat this patient population. Learn techniques that can make mobility easier and safer, while helping facilitate more independent movement in this setting. Understand the importance of teaching the patient about pain control, the role of exercise and early mobilization for successful outcomes, and how barriers may impact where a patient goes after the acute care setting. This is the third course in a five course series.
