"Welcome to this learning activity on Physical Therapy: Dementia, Behavior Management.
Health care professionals in retirement homes, long term care facilities, and home care agencies may care for individuals exhibiting aggressive behaviors. These behaviors may include physical or verbal aggression and manifest in numerous individuals with dementia.
Aggressive behavior includes verbalizations such as demands, shouting, profanity, or threats. Physical manifestations may include punching, grabbing, pushing, kicking, throwing objects, or spitting. These behaviors disrupt care, cause distress, and pose a risk of harm to health care workers, family members, and other individuals.
This learning activity facilitates the identification of the cause of these behaviors, their triggers, and practical strategies to ensure the safety of both the individual and those in proximity."
