Course Description:

At the Amputee Symposium on October 2nd and 3rd, 2025, the Self-Directed CEU Experience offers Physical Therapists a unique, interactive opportunity to earn 1 CEU by engaging directly with approximately 20 exhibitors showcasing cutting-edge innovations in lower extremity prosthetics, upper extremity prosthetics, and orthotics. The exhibit hall is thoughtfully arranged to create a seamless flow through a diverse range of technologies and solutions, allowing participants to explore at their own pace.
This self-directed CEU experience offers physical therapists an engaging opportunity to deepen their understanding of cutting-edge innovations in amputee rehabilitation. Participants will explore advancements that enhance mobility, activities of daily living (ADLs), and overall functional outcomes through direct interaction with industry experts and exhibitors. Designed to emphasize real-world applications, this experience encourages therapists to actively engage with prosthetic technologies and rehabilitation strategies that improve patient quality of life. By completing this interactive exhibit tour and addressing targeted questions, therapists will gain valuable insights that can be immediately integrated into clinical practice to optimize care for individuals with limb loss.
Upon check-in at the registration desk, therapists receive a detailed worksheet listing each exhibitor alongside two pre-determined, therapy-focused questions. These questions emphasize practical clinical considerations, focusing on how each innovation enhances patient mobility, supports activities of daily living (ADLs), and promotes improved functional outcomes. Examples include the prosthetics or orthotic’s role in stair climbing, cooking, toileting, return to work activities, recreational participation, and overall quality of life improvements.
Therapists spend one hour visiting the booths, interacting with company representatives, and gathering answers. This process encourages meaningful conversations about how each product helps patients regain independence, engage in exercise, and resume their favorite activities. After completing the worksheet, therapists return to the registration desk to sign out and receive their CEU certificate.
Previously Approved by Indiana, Wisconsin, and Illinois Physical & Occupational Therapy Associations:
This innovative self-directed format was successfully approved by the Indiana Physical Therapy Association and Indiana Occupational Therapy Association in 2016, as well as by the Illinois Physical Therapy Association, Illinois Occupational Therapy Association, Wisconsin Physical Therapy Association, and Wisconsin Occupational Therapy Association in 2018 for similar events —highlighting its acceptance and effectiveness across multiple states.
