Course Description:
Patients with neurological conditions can be extremely challenging to treat. There is such a variety of patient presentations as well as specialty needs. This makes it challenging for Occupational and Physical Therapists to remain up to date. These webinars are an ongoing effort to identify the optimal treatment techniques to better support the busy therapist.
The priority will be to focus on the latest literature and emphasize the most up-to-date recommendations to improve patient outcomes. This series of live online courses will focus on knowledge translation of key concepts into clinical practice. Summaries of the latest research for assessment and intervention will be provided while also working directly with therapists on their current patients to guide them in designing their evidence-based interventions. The sessions will focus on a variety of treatment interventions, conditions, and diagnoses to guide the neurologic therapist’s clinical decision-making. Planned learning activities will include teaching and case-based mentorship on:
● Gaze stability and vestibular system components to improve balance outcomes
● Person-centered dementia care using profiling and communication strategies to reduce behavioral symptoms and refusals
● The integration of breathing techniques to enhance trunk control, mobility, and overall functional performance
● Fall training progression strategies tailored for older adults and individuals with Parkinson’s disease
● Visual impairments such as hemianopsia and their impact on daily function, with a focus on distinguishing from neglect and improving participation
This content will be presented over 7 modules, 1 hour in length each. The content will be presented live/virtual with the ability for attendees to interact with the instructors. Attendees have the option of attending live (synchronous), or watching and learning at a later time (asynchronous), for each module. These options present the ability for students to fully participate synchronously, fully asynchronously, or a hybrid combination of the two to cover all of the modules.
