Course Description:
Creating a comprehensive picture of the prevalence of HIV and AIDS in the United States helps healthcare providers and others better plan how to educate, screen, and treat this epidemic. Cases of HIV infection and AIDS are not evenly distributed throughout the country. Some groups, such as men who have sex with men, Black/African Americans, and Hispanics/Latinos, are disproportionately impacted by HIV and AIDS, compared to the rest of the population.
Simply put, it is not a democratic disease. Understanding how HIV and AIDS prevalence is distributed across populations is a critical aspect of preventing infection. This learning activity discusses HIV and AIDS demographics and the effects of HIV based on age, ethnicity, race, and sexual orientation.
