Course Description:
Culture is defined as a system of shared values, beliefs, and rituals that an individual learns within their social group and that are passed down from generation to generation. A national culture refers to the shared values and belief systems that influence the behaviors, decisions, and perceptions of a population from a specific country or region. Healthcare professionals and companies need to understand national cultures so they can better adapt their individual care and practices to the needs of these cultures. Understanding different cultures will also help healthcare professionals be culturally sensitive when dealing with a wide variety of individual backgrounds. Cultural sensitivity is an essential aspect of the holistic care of all individuals. This cultural awareness will assist healthcare professionals in providing the best possible care to individuals from any and all backgrounds.
