Course Description:
This course will involve interaction, hands-on skills lab, and case-study discussions/Q&A. The course will begin with a review of relevant anatomy and physiology of the shoulder complex, followed by a discussion of common shoulder complex diagnoses and injuries. The clinician can expect hands on experience with shoulder evaluation and assessment techniques, with a research based review of clinical pearls, regional interdependence, differential diagnosis, special tests, and common issues leading to injury. Physical Therapy manual techniques and exercise progressions will be presented, with a skills lab for clinicians to become confident with these techniques. There will be dedicated time to focus on full body strength exercises with emphasis on the connection between lower body power generation, core stability, and upper extremity force output for upper extremity sports. Case studies will be presented to generate discussion and share clinical reasoning for return to sport progressions. A review of evidence based return to sport assessment will be presented with time for clinicians to practice specific tests.
