Course Description:

In this course, a brief overview of disorders of consciousness and the available evidence-based practice for physical therapy / occupational therapy evaluation and treatment will be provided. We will discuss the process of initiating a multidisciplinary approach and the state of the Disorder of Consciousness Program at C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital. PT/OT evaluation / treatment strategies will be presented in detail and applied to multiple case examples. Overall, this course content is directly related to physical therapy as it will provide information regarding physical therapy early evaluation / intervention for acute disorder of consciousness based on available evidence.
