Course Description:
This two-and-a-half-hour course will discuss the increased risk of postural control deficits and the development of neuromuscular scoliosis for many children with neuromuscular disorders. Looking at specific diagnoses, the learner will be able to identify unique risks of scoliosis and types of bony deformities of the spine, pelvis and/or hips with their risk of occurrence and progression of the curve. In addition, this course will explain how postural control deficits negatively affect functional tasks in daily life. Using case studies, the learner will compare and contrast the effect of orthotic intervention vs non-intervention on functional tasks and ability of the child to participate at home, at school and in the community.
