Course Description:
Orthotists and Prosthetists design and fabricate devices such as artificial limbs, braces, and other medical equipment and collaborate with patients to determine their needs as well as en-sure that their devices work and fit correctly. Once a patient is fitted for an orthosis or prosthesis, treatment focuses on training for its use with specialized physi-cal and occupational therapy to help the patient re-gain optimal mobility, maximize comfort, and function and increase endurance. It is important for clinicians to gain knowledge in orthotic and prosthetic compo-nentry to provide optimal treatment strategies for pa-tients using these devices to achieve the best patient outcomes. Participants of this presentation will be able to identify the types of suspension systems for prosthetics, describe several types of AFOs and their uses.
