Course Description:
This course examines the development of affirming healthcare practices for transgender and nonbinary patients through clinical, cultural, and policy perspectives. Students will explore how dominant medical models have historically pathologized gender diversity and how contemporary frameworks aim to demedicalize identity and center lived experience. Emphasis is placed on anti-oppressive practice, trauma-informed care, and the integration of LGBTQ+ health research to promote equitable, inclusive systems. By engaging with case studies and current policy debates, students will develop evidence-based strategies to create safer, more responsive environments for trans and nonbinary individuals across healthcare and community settings.
