Course Description: The Peer Instructed Course is an annual learning opportunity for Physical and Occupational Therapists at Mott Children’s Hospital to explore new ideas, strategies, and hands-on techniques. This session will open with Dr. Angeline Bowman, PM&R, who will highlight the many exciting pediatric rehab clinics happening right here at Mott Children’s Hospital.
This year’s 2025 course will be led by Karen Lin, OT, and Elaine Behnke, PT—both highly experienced pediatric therapists with over 20 years of expertise. Karen will share practical tips on safely thickening liquids for feeding, while Elaine will dive into tongue ties and how they relate to torticollis.
Learning Objectives for the PT Course Tongue Tie and Torticollis:
1) The Participant will understand the anatomical and fascial connection between tongue tie and torticollis
2) The participant will identify clinical signs that suggest a tongue tie
3) The participant will identify the implications for feeding, posture, and motor development
4) The participant will learn manual therapeutic techniques that can address tongue tie and torticollis
5) The participant will identify other collaborative care practitioners
