While acute postoperative pain is normal, up to 56% of people will experience persistent postsurgical pain lasting two or more months. As therapy professionals, what could we do better to address acute pain and prevent long-lasting symptoms? What is a normal response to postoperative pain management and what are red flags? In this course, we explore the research on the pathophysiology of pain in postoperative patients, the concepts of central and peripheral sensitization, and evidence-based strategies to facilitate optimal pain management and help your patients achieve the best outcomes.
