Course Description:
This course provides physical therapists with evidence-based knowledge and practical skills to implement high-intensity interval training (HIIT) in individuals post-stroke. Participants will review the physiological and functional benefits of HIIT for stroke recovery and examine current evidence supporting its use in neurorehabilitation. The course will instruct participants on performing a submaximal exercise test using a recumbent stepper to guide safe exercise prescription. Using estimated HRmax or results from submaximal testing, participants will learn to design individualized HIIT interventions appropriate for patients post-stroke. Participants will engage in supervised practice implementing HIIT protocols using a recumbent stepper, treadmill, and overground walking while monitoring physiological responses to ensure safety and appropriate intensity.
