Course Description
This course provides a comprehensive overview of vestibular assessment and management in the acute care and emergency department settings. Participants will review the anatomy and physiology of the peripheral and central vestibular systems and learn to apply targeted bedside examination techniques to support differential diagnosis and identify red flags requiring urgent medical referral. Emphasis is placed on efficient, evidence-based bedside vestibular screening, including Vestibular/Ocular Motor Screening (VOMS), positional testing for benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV), and balance and gait assessments appropriate for medically complex patients. The course also reviews acute management and treatment strategies for BPPV and highlights the critical importance of appropriate discharge planning and follow-up with a vestibular specialist to ensure continuity of care and optimal patient outcomes.
