Course Description:
This intensive boot camp is designed for physical therapists, occupational therapists, and other non-physician clinicians involved in the care of individuals living with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) across inpatient, outpatient, and home settings. The course emphasizes the rehabilitation role across the ALS disease trajectory, with a focus on functional assessment, symptom management, assistive technology, respiratory considerations, and interdisciplinary care planning.
Through a combination of didactic instruction and hands-on skill sessions, participants will develop practical strategies to optimize mobility, upper-extremity function, activities of daily living, communication, and quality of life, while supporting patients and families through progressive functional decline. Content is aligned with current ALS standards of care and highlights collaborative decision-making between PT, OT, speech-language pathology, respiratory therapy, nursing, and neurology.
